Generations

(You can receive this Blog via email by entering your address on the right.)

A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of leading worship at my church with both of my sons playing in our band. While I played the keyboard, my older son played lead guitar and my younger son was on the drums. For me, it was huge.

There have been other times that my sons and I have played music together, but for some reason this time was special. Maybe it was the fact that as I get older I "reflect" more. Or maybe it was watching them "groove" together on the songs (some that I wrote). For whatever reason, I looked over at them as we played and was proud. Proud that they were participating with me in an eternal pursuit, and proud that they were carrying on a passion of mine.

All of us instill something in our children. Sometimes it's the same negative attitudes and habits that we carry. But most of the time its the good things about our lives - the things that we want to pass down as our legacy.

I constantly encourage my children to be more than they think they can be, to dream big, and to create extravagantly. When they have children, I want them to instill the same values and passions that I have sought to instill into them.

One day when they do have children, I hope they play music and lead worship with their kids. Or even better, I want to experience playing music and leading worship with my children and their children. Now that would be cool!

Question: What can you do to instill greatness and encourage your children to dream? What are your next steps? Share your thoughts below in comments.
